My patient named Mr. Johnson is one of the most robust and happy men that I’ve ever known. Unfortunately, he had a very aggressive cancer that ate through his facial nerve and went up to his skull. After I operated on him, he had facial nerve paralysis, and one side drooped, and so I went into his room and explained to him the prognosis and that it wasn’t very great.
After asking if he had any questions, he smiled at me and said, “Yeah, can you write me for some of those Niagara’s.” After some back and forth, I realized he meant Viagra.
I said, “Mr. Johnson, did you hear what I just said?” He said, “Yeah, I completely heard you but God told me that He was going to give me life and that more abundantly, but didn’t tell me how long that life was going to be. So I have to make a choice. Either I will continue to live or I start dying.”
I don’t know where you are or if you lost your way, your job, your spouse, or your house. I don’t know if you have a disease that no one can cure or you have pain that no one can heal or you have a hurt that no one understands, but I’m telling you to live and to fight. Fight as long as you can, as much as you can, as hard as you can, but live.
Don’t give up, don’t give in, and don’t give out. Go out and buy the house, go out and get the shoes, go out and have the vacation, go out and buy the car, but live!
